30 Rogers Lost Springs Idaho

Creative Photography Contest #12
The above photo is Thousand Springs, Idaho
I was working with the above photo in my photo editor GIMP, trying to get a good desaturate black and white photo. The skyline was messing me up to drab, so I open a file up of Lost Lake, Idaho (below photo) that has a awesome skyline, then thought that a I could merge these two together to form a whole new place... Rogers Lost Springs. A place of unlimited fishing and photo shooting.

Combing the two photos
In editing I took the first photo, Thousand Springs and adjusted the color curve to bright so I could just select the skyline. I then took the Lost Lake photo open in another window and copied and paste into the skyline of Thousand Springs. At first putting in just the clouds into the skyline, but I moved it up just a little more for the trees to be peeking out and made a nice border.
I then flatten the entire selection and darken it using the brightness levels
then flattening the entire photo and WAALAA!
Rogers Lost Springs.

Changing it to Black and White
I selected a average desaturate and then add a golden gradient which I then grain merged and faded, ending up with a great black in white. Made up of two landscapes a couple of hundred miles from each other.

This is my contribution to the Creative Photography contest #12
I hope your enjoying the contest.

Thousand Springs is one of my favorite places. Love the creativity of combining the two pictures.

The black & white is actually the most evocative: The shapes of the rocks / piedmont stand out more without the distractions of the surrounding colors of nature. The rocks just look more immense this way!

Someday, I really need to see Idaho!

I'm enjoying the last picture done up with B&W. Scenic views of 2 places so close to each other. It's an added bonus to have seen a combined picture of these 2 places as well.
Nice one Roger!

Beautiful photos Roger. Sometimes I take the scenic route through Thousand Springs if I ever travel east. Was nearly dry last time I went through a couple of years ago.

Hi, Roger
You photographed such a beautiful place. I really enjoyed seeing how you edited the photos, too.

Thanks for following my blog. I've just discovered Wordless and I'm lovin' choosing my own versions of wordless photos. I'm more into images than words, so this is right up my alley!

Peace,
Pagan
